Senior Scholar Workshop in Hyderabad

On February 28th and 29th 2008 the Senior Scholar Workshop on 'Law and Economic Development' took place at the University of Hyderabad, India. Twelve senior scholars from Europe and India presented papers on different Law and Economics subjects, including environmental liability, intellectual property rights and public interest litigation. Workshop for Ph.D. students

A Workshop for Ph.D. students was held at the University of Hamburg, Germany on January 11th 2008. The Indian students participating in the Sandwich Programme were required to present their doctoral thesis, or exceprts thereof, which was discussed at the workshop.

In addition, the papers were evaluated by external referees (Prof. Emanuela Carbonara, Prof. Kornelius Kraft, Prof. Laurens de Vries and Prof. Georg v. Wangenheim), and thus the students received valuable comments in order to enhance the quality of their scholary work.

Arrival of research abroad students

In June, two new research students, Mr. Francis Xavier Rathinam and Mr. Padmanabha Ramanujam, arrived in Hamburg. They are participating in the Sandwich Programme for Indian Ph.D. students, having been granted an academic scholarship for 20 months. This allows them to conduct their research in Hamburg until January 2008.

In November, Mr. Zakaria Siddiqui will start his research at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Law and Economics (CASLE) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghent (Belgium).

Finally in January 2007, the Institute of Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg will welcome Ms. Poonam Mehra and Mr. Vikas Kumar to conduct their research for the upcoming 20 months.
